  • Cepstral
    This website was build for the Cepstral Speech Synthesis Company based in Soutside. This site was built in 2003. Websites during that time were leaning toward a more professional look using flash animated header images and small text to give a sleek corporate look. At the time Cepstral was going in this Open Source direction. They had released an opensource speech engine (the first of its kind..). The goal with this was website was to create a professional looking open source website. Using all text and limited images I created the mostly css driven site. I had no idea at the time that the web 2.0 look would become so popular. This of course doesnt use large readable fonts like the recent web 2.0 sites do, but it does have that look. The entire site was created using dynamic text connected to an admin system (and database). The frontpage uses a small CMS system I built for use with sites like this. Custom CMS was just becoming popular at the time and I wanted to give cepstral the control over their frontpage. The Demo, Story, and Affiliate boxes can be changed and replaced using the admin system. The second goal (of 3 main goals) was to make sure the entire site was Bobby compliant. It was really important for the website to be completly readable by the blind screen readers. Using css and few images the entire site is read and navigated by the blind/accessability users. Our 3rd goal was search engine optimization. Before the launch of this site, cepstral had very little search engine presense. With the launch of this SEO friendly site we saw a huge jump in our popularity and presense. With the website and a little seo work as well over the next year we have managed to rank number 4 on google for "text to speech", no 6 for "tts", and no 3 for "synthetic voices". Thanks to our work making a simple website with good content we are on the first page for nearly all text to speech related keywords. We are currently working on expanding the cepstral site.
  • Pittsburgh Custom Woodworks
    Great website for a new woodworking company based in Pittsburgh's Uptown. They wanted something simple and inexpensive that could be setup in a matter of weeks. The site is completly dynamic. All text can be changed on the fly using the admin system connected to the database. They have control over their portfolio system which the left side image area draws an image from everytime the page loads. THis allows them to show off their work on each page. It also provides a linkback to the portfolio section. The site also ties in to the google business pages and google maps system. Since they are a small company we used a "request a quote" form to reduce the sales calls and insted direct potential customers into their email sales channel.
